Project Iraq
Our family has always been pro-Military and the
majority of its men have served. My father served
in the European Theater in WWII. My husband
served in the Ohio National Guard. Our older son
spent 10 years in the Air Force. My brother,
brothers-in-law and uncles all served. We grew up
in the Viet Nam era and were stunned at the
treatment of Military personnel during that time
frame. Ever since, I've tried to go out of my way to
show all Military personnel I've encountered how
much I respect and appreciate them.
About a year ago, I began to feel that it was
important that we do something out of the ordinary
to support our Military people who are serving,
especially those involved in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Project Iraq was born out of that desire when I
discovered that many other folk in our community
felt the same way. We obtained names and
addresses of soldiers via word-of-mouth and on
the Internet. We began to communicate with these
special American Heroes and the Project grew. At
Christmas, we shipped over 800 pounds and 48
boxes to these soldiers. What a tremendous
response!
We have now received the names of soldiers who
are in Iraq who have dubbed themselves "Missile
Soldiers". We are communicating with these
soldiers and are currently putting together a mailing
to send them their "wish list" of items to make life a
little easier.
This is an exciting time and we all look forward to
many more days of providing love and support to
these true American Heroes.
